Plus, their torturously slow burn romance did turn a bit 🌶 spicey 🌶 by the end and made all my agonising shouts at 3am to “JUST BLOODY KISS ALREADY” entirely worth it. Despite being a rather heavy read due to the slavery and war that drive the majority of the plot, I had a really great time reading this. There were a number of references to the gods and faeries as well, so I’m interested to see more development in regards to the world-building. And I’m very invested in these characters and where their story will go. also, i hope we get more of nura because although i don’t trust her i like her for now….plus that slight cliffhanger 😒

And I loved how slowly their friendship developed into love. It was such a beautiful thing because they never forced their feelings on each other but were just going with the flow until they both realised they were in love. I love them so much 💘 This was a surprisingly wonderful read. Tisaanah is an excellent main character. The majority of the book is from her point of view. She is strong willed(not in a bratty way like you see in many novels). She is brave, smart, and resourceful. She has to fight every step of the way to get what she wants and she never gives up. But the next morning, after Max leaves, Reshaye realizes what happened between Max and Tisaanah and flies into a jealous rage. It disappears, leaving Tisaanah without its power. In a wild surge of fury, Tisaanah lashes out at Esmaris with her magic, and accidentally kills him. She and Max collapse together. With her final connection to Reshaye’s power, she draws a Stratagram to bring her, Max, and all the slaves outside the estate’s walls.

Oh noooo, I have some powers, but like, I need to learn how to make them stronger because I never had a chance before…who could I possibly get to teach me the ways of my ancestors other than this hunk of mysterious & sexy, broody man-meat, who would, in lieu of helping me, rather throw himself off a cliff???? To my bestie Ri, babes I had sososo much fun reading this with you! And even though this book wasn't 5/5 stars for me ur company definitely was 1929473937392091028/5. I love our over-dramatic reactions to practically anything that happens and also our fan-girling sessions over Max and the way we were actually plotting murder for *ahem* someone(s) *ahem* ilyy and can't wait to complete this series and br more amazing, chaotic books together 💕🥺🫂

okay. wow. wowowow. i read this book in a span of a week even though if i had the chance to, i would've read this in one sitting because it was just that good. when i wasn't reading this book, i was thinking about it. and when i was thinking about this book, i was most certainly reading itBut I stand with you until the end. Reshaye shows Tisaanah visions from its past and its time with Max. During this time, Tisaanah sees a vision of what truly happened in Sarlazai – that Nura used her mind magic to force Max’s mental walls down and let Reshaye free, who unleashed destruction across the city. She also sees the truth of what happened to Max’s family – that Reshaye, in a possessive rage, murdered them using Max’s body. I wanted him in so many ways. As a friend, as a kindred soul, as a fierce teammate. As skin and lips and teeth. As a hitched breathless moan in the darkness or a lazy embrace in the sunrise. I wanted that. I wanted it all.” ~ ❤❤

Okay that was S T U N N I N G 😍😍😍 I expected to enjoy it but nobody told me it was this good??!! 🤭🤭 I'm obsessed!! 💗💗The next day, Tisaanah is summoned to the Towers. On the steps, Max seems to have some an epiphany and begs Tisaanah not to go – but still refuses to tell her why. Tisaanah, knowing that two people could never do alone what she needed to do, still goes to the meeting.
