About this deal

ICU director Dr Mike Antrim mentions the care she gave to his daughter, Amy, after her hit-and-run two months earlier.

But staying in the background is just not in her genetic make-up so - especially when no one will listen to her - what's a mother to do? With Jane and Maura tied up in their own investigations, Angela feels she may have to take things into her own hands which could put her in danger. There are other things happening in the neighborhood as well, and Angie is in the middle of all of it. Even though it’s been so long since I was able to tag along during one of their investigations, it took no time at all to reacquaint myself with them. Their sexist attitudes seem to come from the ark - I find them ridiculously 1950s - though I’m 73 myself and they’re all supposed to be ‘middle aged’.When Jane discovers that Sophia’s murder was linked to a hit-and-run that happened months previously, she is even more unsettled about the case.

This was a very entertaining read as you ride along with Jane and try to figure out what did Sofia know? Rizzoli and Isles has been one of my favourite crime series’, and Tess Gerritsen one of my favourite authors, since I borrowed The Surgeon from the library almost twenty years ago. The many plot threads do come together after some good twists and false turns, but not until late in the novel and will keep you guessing at how they could be related. That was pre-pandemic, so by my calculations it’s been 142 years since I read the twelfth book, give or take.

Meanwhile, Jane's mother Angela Rizzoli has two mysterious issues of her own to get to the bottom of - the disappearance of a local teenager and a suspicious couple who have moved into the vacant house across the road. There's a young woman who appears to have a stalker, a nurse who was slaughtered in her own home with no apparent motive and a couple of just-moved in secretive neighbors Angela is certain are up to no good (plus a couple of others who may not be quite the folks Angela always thought they were). In the meantime, Jane’s mother, Angela, has her hands full as the self-designated neighborhood watch. I do wish Maura had played a bigger role in this book as she was relegated to more of a minor character, which I didn't love at all, and to be honest, although I enjoyed the book, it's not a favorite in the series because Angela played such a prominent role as MC.It seems that there is something suspicious about the new neighbors who have moved in across the street.
