Her book, Transcendence, (which I tried to talk you into reading via Twitter in the spring, Jane, and I’m sure you haven’t read yet and I’m heartbroken) was one of the best romances I read this year. Beneath his brash exterior, he’s protective and sweet, not to mention generous in every sense of the word. She could have taken out so much of them in their happy phase (especially since the break up is late and doesn’t last long) and focused more on developing the conflict. I'm obsessed because from page one, Avery's writing completely transfixed me, I was so hook-line-and-sinker in the story and characters and their world. It would be non existent and then, bam, a chapter with one of the exes, and then they would go away and all would be well.After being dumped on her 21st birthday, Bailey James rebounds right into the arms of her ex’s biggest competition.

Beyond that, the twists and turns, the chemistry of the characters, the depth of story and lives, the unexpected as well as the expected. He isn’t playing to win – and when he gets a red card for a dirty foul, it looks as though it’s all over. Sociology scholars and soccer aficionados alike should be intrigued by this painstakingly comprehensive analysis, made especially accessible by the lively and enthusiastic style of the authors. Caught in the midst of a bitter rivalry that extends far beyond the arena, Chase and Bailey are on opposite sides of the bench.
