About this deal

Getz commented in part: "The Helmuth Award has special meaning because it comes from people I respect so much. un racconto semplice, senza i fronzoli che spesso "abbelliscono" le storie vere, soprattutto di donne o uomini che arrivano dai paesi più poveri. The author's note describes the background for the construction of this book and the gradual reconstruction of Enaiatollah Akbari's migration from Afghanistan to Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece and finally, to Italy. it reads like a person simply rambling (but in an impressive linear fashion) about their life, but sometimes they're disrupted by the author with questions or comments. Along the way Enaiatollah is shown touches of kindness but these are rare and he is generally exploited by those around him.

This is a compelling story of a young boy's attempt to find a better place for himself after his mother began the process by taking him out of Afghanistan to remove him from the reach of the Taliban. Those kinds of real experiences, you can't really duplicate when you're getting a movie out of a vending machine. I think the writing could be refined a bit more in terms of depth perhaps it was purposeful like that so author could be consistent with his narrator. La sua vita di continui spostamenti alla ricerca di situazioni migliori inizia, ha fine solo quando arriva in Italia.

It is an insightful and educational book about the courage of a 10 year old forced to face the world alone and survive against all odds. Questo libro ci apre gli occhi sulla vera situazione afgana, l'emigrazione, il razzismo, l'importanza dello studio e di quanto sia pericolosa la vita di un emigrato. Salutary and humane, In the Sea There Are Crocodiles, as its "international bestseller" status indicates, deserves to be read widely by young and older readers alike. Enaiatollah's journey begins when his mother leaves him at a refugee camp in Pakistan, as she fears for his life if he stays with her in Afghanistan and is forced to do the most difficult thing a mother can do. La narrazione è intervallata da brevissimi scambi di battute tra Enaiat e Fabio Geda che servono a sottolineare la veridicità del racconto; appaiono però artefatti ottenendo l'effetto opposto di dare alla storia un senso di artificiosità.It reminded me of the tenements in New York and all the children of immigrants living on the streets and taken to the orphan trains. Thus begins Enaiat's remarkable and often punishing five-year ordeal, which takes him through Iran, Turkey, and Greece before he seeks political asylum in Italy at the age of fifteen. It should also be noted that this book is categorized as a novel and being "based on a true story" because there are lots of facts that are unknown and Fabio Geda was the author. I recommend this one for a quick, less in depth look at tragic events such as this and tales of survival coming from the Middle East.

It was absolutely still heartbreaking to read about all of the things that Akbari and many other children went through. I cannot fathom how dire a situation would be for a mother to sneak her child to another country and then just abandon him there.Another sad and tragic story about a refugee fleeing his home and looking for shelter in another country.
